Metal Bearing is a shaft support bearing leading antifriction(liquid/gas) in between shaft and bearing, and it is providing a relative sliding motion by the pressure.
The picture as shown below is the typical case of JOURNAL bearing using oil antifriction.

Firstly, the gap between shaft and metal bearing become narrow into rotating direction according to shaft rotation, and oil is sucked into gap, then it is supporting the shaft by the force of pressure. To prevent that shaft close in the metal bearing rapidly, oil will be sucked into the gap by the pressure. In case of the changes of load direction such as bearing of internal combustion, it is supporting the shaft by both side pressures. In the case of sliding bearing, the pressure will be spread widely. And the pressure distribution can be smoothing.

Bearing could make fatigue failure easily because it takes heavy load by a rigid chain or bead, on the other hand Metal Bearing has several advantages as below;

White Metal : KSD 6003
White Metal composed of tin (Sn) as a principle component, copper (Cu), antimony (Sb) is fused in the inside of base metal (steel, copper alloy). As a material with the characteristics of metal bearing such as non-deposited nature, corrosion resistance, stickiness, and fatigue resistance, it is used in general industries and in every engine broadly. Especially, tin-based metal is particularly suitable for diesel engine and also other alloys for special purposes.
Kelmet Metal : KSD 6004
Kelmet Metal composed of copper (CU) and lead (Pb) alloys is used in bearings. It is harder and better fatigue resistance of a bearing material compared to White Metal, and broadly used for high-speed and high-load bearing as it has a good thermal conductivity of copper and lubrication action of lead.
